The majority of crimes committed against scheduled castes in thirteen states

A recent government review found that 13 states account for most atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), which is a large blow to any effort they will make. The study found that these states represented 97.7% of all cases against SCs and 98.91% of all those lodged by STs, yet another indicator existence heavy atrocity loaded against the groups on whom we have constitutionally laid the burdened baggage mentioned above

Brutality on Scheduled Caste and Tribe: India

• Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya reported highest number of 51,656 registered cases atrocity against Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the year 2022
• These states contributed to more than 50% of total cases against SCs, making it a major regional problem.
• Atrocity against Scheduled Tribes (STs) came from the similar 13 States which constitute S.C Summary about 98.91%.
• The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, created to check violence against SCs and STs — yet with so many cases filed under this Act again signaling a failure in enforcement or compliance.
• Despite this, the data reveals only one side of many stories that indicate a gaping hole in protection and awareness among states affected.
• SCs and STs face considerable social stigma and difficulties, as they continue to be regarded with the same socio-economic background "untouchable".
• Many STs are recognized in the Indian constitution and live separated from mainstream society facing displacement, lack of education and economic backwardness.
