Indian Government Approves NMHC Development

The construction of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat, has been authorized by the Indian government, which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India's lengthy and rich maritime heritage will be honored by this endeavor.

Project Overview: NMHC Project

  • Phases 1B and 2 are under development through voluntary contributions.
  • The Light House Museum to be undertaken by Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, under Phase 1B
  • Societies Registration Act, 1860 will set up a new Society to manage the next phase
  • Phase 1A: More than two-thirds done, and slated for completion by 2025
  • Image: Phase 1A and Phase 1B are strung under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model while Phase II will be carried out based on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) module.
  • Will have a positive economic impact − NMHC is estimated to support approximately 22,000 jobs in communities close by and those that are visiting too.
  • The project is significant as the Prime Minister had envisioned it to highlight India's maritime culture.
  • Subsequent phases consist of a museum, a Light House Museum, a Bagicha complex and Green parks.
