The Pacific Island Forum (PIF) is a regional organization that brings Pacific Countries together to discuss economic growth & security and peace. Later in 2024, the PIF held its annual conference in Tonga, August 26-30. The forum was attended by over 1,500 delegates from the relative flock of more than 40 nations marking the first time anyone could remember that superpowers China and America pined for power play in the resource-rich Pacific with such seriousness.

Historical Background
- PIF was established in 1971 comprising Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, Tonga and Western Samoa.
- 1981-- The Organization re-named its economic cooperation body the Forum Secretariat.
- At present, PIF comprises 18 member countries.
Member States
- List of PIF is as follows:-AUS, Cook island, FS Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru*, New Calaedia, NZ,, Niue,Pleau*, PNG,RMI**. Samoa,, Solomons,Tonga Tuvalu,and Vanuate.
PIF's Core Objectives
- The PIF is about a safer and stronger Pacific.
- Primary goal is to address environmental issues such as climate change
The "Pacific Way"
- This even includes the PIF, which seems to use consultative and relation-based mechanisms to settle disputes within its own ranks.
What was spoken about in the 2024 Summit
- New Caledonia Assault, climate change, regional security and the status of Taiwan were top issues discussed.
