The BRIC-National Agri-Food Bio-Manufacturing Institute was established in India by Dr. Jitendra Singh. This is the nation's first biomanufacturing institution, with the goal of using cutting-edge biotechnology to transform the agri-food industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, is in line with the effort.
Indian labor’s contribution to agricultural evolution
- The Indian government always ensures employment creation and environmental conservation for the country.
- The BioE3 policy targets the promotion of biotechnology as a tool for improving the economy, employment opportunities, and environmental conservation.
- The policy has the aspiration of facilitating India’s move from making products in an analogue method to using new, improved, efficient technology of production.
BRIC-NABI Formation
- The BRIC-NABI was, however, created by integrating the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) and the Centre of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB).
- The institute is intended for the improvement of agricultural research and the production of short-duration, high-yielding, disease-resistant varieties of crops, biofertilizers, and biopesticides.
BioNest Incubation Centre
- The center’s mission is to support the scale-up of entrepreneurial agri-food innovations.
Private Sector Involvement
- Regarding initiatives that target market opportunity, Dr. Singh made a call for the more active participation of the private sector. The next biomanufacturing workshop is on schedule for Louisiana.
- A biomanufacturing workshop 1.0 is planned for December 2024.
Addressing Brain Drain
- Dr. Singh said that young Indian scientists have been moving to developed countries and asked young researchers to stay in India.
The significance of BRIC-NABI
- BRIC-NABI’s establishment is the most exciting milestone in India’s transformation to the science-driven economy.
