Archeological Discovery in Tiruvallur District Found two16th-century CE copper plate inscriptions

An amazing archeological discovery has been made in the Tiruvallur district's Mappedu hamlet. At the Sri Singeeswarar temple, two copper plate inscriptions from the 16th century CE were found. During a normal examination of the temple lockers, this find was discovered. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department is in charge of overseeing the lockers.

THE TIMELESS WRITINGS AT SRI SINGEESWARAR TEMPLE

  • Copper Plates connected with a ring carried Vijayanagara Kingdom seal.
  • Inscriptions are as early as 1513 CE during the reign of King Krishandevaraya.
  • Composition in Sanskrit and Nandinagari script reflecting linguistic practice of the time
  • Certificates which relate that the ruler gifted the village of Vasalabattaka, to Brahmins later known as Krishnarayapura.
  • Earlier inscriptions spell out the limits of the village offered in donation, presently located in Tirupati distsict in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Inscriptions are used for administration and governance, and as such, they hold importance for historians and archaeologists.
  • Our history is preserved by ASI/State Archaeology Department so that we can pass onto our coming generations to learn from their mistakes.
