(Namo Drone Didi) Program in India

The "Namo Drone Didi" program was introduced by the Indian government. By supplying drones, this project seeks to strengthen women's self-help groups (SHGs). The program is a component of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana. It will operate from 2024 to 2026 and has a budget of ?1261 crores. By providing drone rental services for agricultural operations, the aim is to assist farmers.

Scheme Aims and Intended Place-Job Holders

  • Improve productivity of farming through the application of unmanned aerial vehicles for the application of liquid fertilizers and pesticides.
  • What they want to do is increase the yield of crops and decrease costs of production for the farmers.
  • Enhance full employment opportunities for women in rural areas.

Target Beneficiaries

  • Microfdcited here are 14,500 selected women SHGs across India.
  • Use asynchronous videoconference—receive drones and training on how to operate them properly.

Financial Assistance

  • Financial assistance: The government pays 80% of the cost for buying a drone.
  • It is up to ?8.0 lakhs as the maximum subsidy.
  • Women SHGs can borrow money through the National Agriculture Infrastructure Financing Facility (AIF).

Drone Package Details

  • Compiles drone, its carrying box, camera, dual-channel fast battery charger tool, and onsite warranty for one year.

Capacity Building

  • A total of 15 days of SHG member training is conducted whereby one member from each of the SHGs undergoes training.

Implementation Structure

  • Administered by an Empowered Committee and an Implementation and Monitoring Committee. This paper focuses on identifying the roles of leading fertilizer companies through the following subtopics: 
  • Participate as implementing agencies at the state level.

Monitoring and evaluation

  • The activity of the scheme will be traced through an IT-based Management Information System (MIS).
