(Abhay) launches in the Indian Navy

"Abhay," the Indian Navy's seventh Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), was launched. L&T in Kattupalli hosted the launch, which was presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar. The event was conducted by Mrs. Sandhya Pendharkar, President of the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), Eastern Region.

Project Ministry of Defence, India on ASW SWC Ships

  • A contract for the construction of eight ASW SWC ships was signed between the MoD and GRSE in April 2019.
  • Ships are designed for anti-submarine, LIMO, and mine-laying operations.
  • The length of SSS can reach ~77m, with a maximum speed of 25 knots and an endurance of 1800 nautical miles.
  • >80% of items are indigenous, promoting AtmaNirbhar Bharat's defense production.
  • The mission will boost development and the creation of jobs and technology in the defense sector.
  • The vessels will deliver an essential boost to India as Al Hind maritime security and naval capabilities.
  • The milestone will set the ground for similar naval projects to follow and reiterates the indigenization drive in defense production.
