India Unique Land Parcel Identification

In India, a Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) has been assigned to around 30% of rural land parcels. Each land parcel will be given a 14-digit alphanumeric identification as part of this effort. The Ministry of Rural Development's site is the source of the information.

ULPIN: Geographically coded systematic land identification number for cadastral unit in India.

  • ULPIN is included in The Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP), which is an extension of the National Land Record Modernisation Programme.
  • It was launched in the year 2021 with an objective of consolidation and smooth functioning of land records in India.
  • By such date of October 18, 2024, the enlisted land parcels have touched 28,72,112, & more than 8,40,00,000 ULPINs have been produced.
  • Some research has been done about the progress of the states, and it was established that Gujarat, Goa, MP, Andhra Pradesh, and UP are the most progressed in their development.
  • Modernization incentives are given in the Union Budget for FY2024-2025 for the states to report on the number of land parcels and to set targets for ULPIN.
  •  Under financial incentives, 11 states would be given up to Rs 100 crore, and other state governments would be given between Rs 30 crore and Rs 60 crore.
  •  As a result, the endeavor of ULPIN is essential for increasing the land’s record more transparently, decreasing the confrontation associated with the land, or ownership, and increasing the effectiveness of managing the land.
  •  State-level measures, specifically government support and proper coordination between the state and the central government, determine future success.
