PM (YASASVI) Scheme

The Prime Minister’s Scholarships Scheme of Scholarship for Students with Disabilities was launched in the year 2016-17 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as PM – YASASVI. The occupants of Economically back Business Classes Equivalent, other castel Business Classes Equivalent, and Denotified Tribe Business Classes Equivalent are the target populace of this program. It erases the problem of financial constraint, encourages academic achievement and provides an opportunity for quality education.

PM-YASASVI Scheme Overview

• Merges earlier scholarship programs, such as the Dr. Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship for EBCs and the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship schemes for DNTs.
• Focuses on educational empowerment, aiding marginalized population in completing their education.
• Pre-Matric Scholarship, (b) Post-Matric Scholarship, (c) TopClass School Education, (d)Top Class College Education and (e) Construction of Hostels for OBC boys & girls.
• Pre-Matric Scholarship—Financial assistance of Rs. 4,000 per annum with a family income limit (from all sources) of Rs. 2.5 lakh
• At a post-matric level:Provides academic allowances for students in post-secondary education ranging from between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000.
• Top Class Education Assistance for Meritorious Students: Provides a scholarship of up to Rs. 1.25 lakh per year
• Hostel Construction Project — Rs. 12.75 crore to be allocated for 2023-24
• Advantages: Leads institutional and classroom equity, fights against systemic challenges, and facilitates educational advocacy.
• Funding:-In 2023-24, the budgetary provision for Pre-Matric Scholarship is ?193.83 crore and Post Matric Scholarship is ?988.05 crore.
• More Help for Education: ?14.30 crore has been assigned to build six ocean side dorms for 1,146 students.
