The Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORADS) has undergone three successful tests at Pokhran, Rajasthan, by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The results of these experiments demonstrate a significant advancement in India's capacity to create sophisticated defensive systems.
VSHORADS Overview
- A 4th generation, short range, portable air defense missile system
- Employs infrared, radar, and optical systems for guiding surface-to-air missiles.
- More relevant than ever to modern warfare with the rise of drones.
Testing Objectives
- Tested range and altitude limits for target interception performance.
- Pushed the decision back, and in other scenarios fought successfully against fast-moving aerial threats.
- Displayed an impressively-high accuracy in targeting.
"Hit-to-Kill" Capability
- Showed flexibility and dependability in various situations.
- It can strike moving targets in the approach, recession and sideways hemispheres.
Development and Production
- Two production agencies – developed in parallel but at simultaneous production phase (yes, two different production companies).
- Aligns with the Indian Government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' campaign.
Involvement of Armed Forces
- The whole project has been backed by Indian Armed Forces since the beginning.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat congratulating DRDO and the innovators (R)
