Agriculture Umbrella Schemes Approved by the Union Cabinet

An fundamental shift in the management of agricultural initiatives in India has been agreed by the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By merging the current Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) into two primary umbrella programs, this modification seeks to streamline them:

  • Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY
  • Krishonnati Yojana (KY)

Schemes Summary : PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana

PM-RKVY:

  • Increases sustainable agriculture, giving states the flexibility to determine solutions based on their needs.
  • Finances state-level projects.
  • Focuses on sustainable agriculture and offers state grants.

Krishonnati Yojana:

  • Strives to achieve food security, making India self-reliant in agriculture.
  • Incorporates technological advances of mechanised agriculture and encourages organic farming.
  • Which also emphasizes on skill building, diversification of crops and strengthening of agricultural infrastructure

Implementation:

  • Schemes to be implemented in conjunction with State Governments, the new elements to work in synergy with existing programs to make a substantial difference on the ground.
  • Important Missions i.e, National Mission for Edible Oil-Oil Palm(NMEO-OP), Clean Plant Program, Digital Agriculture, and Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER).

Strategic Planning:

  • Promoting preparation of Integrated Strategic Document for agriculture by States.
  • The restructuring is also meant to avoid duplication, align resources and make the state Annual Action Plans (AAP) approval process simpler.
