- Spoofed Calls– These are calls from an international scammer that show that they are calling from India.
- Financial fraud – impersonation of government officials – panic among citizens
Nature of Cyber Threats
- Van Scoyoc also said that scams similar to fake arrests by police, drug-related scams and impersonating police officials were common.
DoT and TSP Collaboration
- A system to identify and block spoofed calls was developed by the DoT and TSPs.
- Within a span of 24 hours, the system detected and stopped close to 1.35 crore authenticimitated calls or around 90% of all portraying Indian telephone numbers in approaching global calls.

Future Steps
- The DoT said that it has been verifying the facilities which are available to TSPs in securing the systems and networks against cyber-attacks and is working with TSPs towards strengthening securities.
