Indian Institute of Maritime and International Dispute Resolution (IIMIDRO)

The Indian International Maritime Dispute Resolution Centre (IIMDRC) was established during the 20th Solid Maritime States Development Council (MSDC) conference in Goa, marking an important development for India's maritime industry. The center is expected to serve as a key hub for managing the country's marine activities.

Objectives of IIMDRC and Launch of Indian Maritime Centre

  • IIMDRC is intended to provide for fair and impartial, industry-led system of adjudication for the maritime industry disputes.
  • Accordingly, the IMC is an exclusive policy think tank that delves into systematic innovation promotion, knowledge sharing as well as strategic planning with respect to Indian marine and blue economy agenda.

Plans for Shipbuilding

  • Mega Shipbuilding Park would be set up to avoid drafting and provide efficiency and innovation in ship building.
  • India has achieved progress in marine construction of waters with the setting up of its largest dredger.

Promoting Maritime Heritage

  • First of its kind, the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is being developed in Lothal, Gujarat to showcase and celebrate India's glorious maritime heritage.

Sagarmala Programme Update

  • Sagarmala Programme: It was launched in 2015 with an aim to develop ports and coastal areas of India.
  • It lists 839 projects with a spending target of ?5.79 lakh crore by 2035.
