NASA greenlights October 10, 2024 launch for Europa Clipper mission Action V2 with the spaceship in a successful state of ready in high radiation environments. Alex Hall argues that it is also an evaluation stage of the current ship.
Overview Of NASA's Europa Clipper Mission
- Budget $5 billion, launched on SpaceX Falcon Heavy
- Launched within a specific three-week period to be aligned for arrival at Jupiter.
- Tests to verify the good health of the spacecraft's transistors.
- For the past four months, NASA teams have put the spacecraft through a rigorous test campaign on its systems.
- The effort is created to investigate the habitability of Europa's ocean hidden underneath its icy shell.
- The spacecraft will conduct 49 flybys of Europa, as close as 16 miles above the moon.
- Over the next 6 years, the mission will be shuttled to Jupiter at close range flybys every three weeks where it will take measurements.
- But that's not what this mission is about — it rather aims at investigating on a remote sensing basis and to reconnoiter the surface of Europa in order to evaluate whether this moon could be habitable.
