Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Overview

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is one of the flagship initiatives by Indian government to offer quality and affordable medicines for its populace. The program provides medications at steep discounts — often as low as 50% to even more than 90 percent less compared with their brand-name counterparts. This project aims to bring important health care within reach of much more people, while ensuring it stays low-cost.
Expansion Plans for PMBJP

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to expand the reach of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, retail outlets selling these affordable medicines.
  • We expect that from 10,000 some of the Kendras will rise to capture and increase over a spread out proxy period up to 25,000 per year during next three years.

Manufacturing / Quality Assurance Process

  • There are 10,000 certified manufacturing units of Janaushadhi medicines in India that produce them.
  • Medicines are subjected to strict quality assurance checks, before being released.

Distribution Network

  • The key distribution point is located in Gurugram and its central warehouse, as well as facility at Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore and Surat.

Impacts on the Cost associated with PMBJP Programme

  • The program alleviates the financial burden on citizens by ensuring low-cost medication.
