The Telangana government has launched a new project for the subclassification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) within the state and to look into implementing it for providing quota benefits. This is being done to ensure that the different categories in SCs get a fair share of the benefits from the government. The government constituted a special committee to conduct this research, headed by retired Justice Shameem Akhtar. This is based on recommendations of a Cabinet sub-committee that considered methods of implementing the reservation policy so as to ensure equitable distribution of benefits among all SC sub-categories.
