The Assam government has launched a significant initiative to combat child marriage dubbed the "Nijut Moina" project. Given the severe issue of child marriage in the state, this program seeks to encourage females to pursue higher education.
"Nijut Moina' Scheme Overview
- Assisting girl students from Class XI to Post Graduation by supporting them with a monthly amount.
- School attendance and performance are mandatory.
- Forces students to postpone getting married until after they have completed a graduate degree.
- The scheme is not applicable to daughters of several politicians.
