The Center's air pollution control panel has activated Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) due to the deterioration of the air quality in Delhi and the adjacent territories (NCR). With an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 234, which is in the "poor" range, urgent action is required to stop future degradation.
GRAP : Graded Response Action Plan
- Launched in 2017 to combat Delhi and surrounding regions' air pollution problem
- Consists of four stages activated by various levels of air pollution
- Level I: Triggered only when the AQI fluctuates among 201 – 300, concentrated on dust suppression and pollution control.
- Key Actions: Dust control by stricter enforcement, enhanced water sprinkling, solid waste management traffic management agriculture industry emission decontrol, diesel generation restrictions, and ban on use of coal and firewood in food outlets.
- Actions commenced from 8 am on Tuesday, as per directions of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

- Stage IIISevere’ (401-450),
- Stage IVSevere Plus (greater than 450).
- GERAP plays an important role by regulating air quality management during winter months when pollution spikes.
