Expenditure has seen Victoria, Australia withdraw as hosts for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, reinstated in Scotland. Glasgow, which was the host city for this year's Games, will once again stage the event but on a much smaller scale.
Changes to the 2026 Commonwealth Games bid from Australia
- Victoria, Australia — which dropped out of the running to host the 2026 Games because of high costs and inflated cost projections.
- £20 million from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), and pledged no extra public funding by Scotland's government which will host it.
- The UK government also commits £2.3 million of back-up funding in the event that cost overruns exceed available funds, keeping hosting both affordable and sustainable.
