The Ministry of Textiles' significant Samarth Scheme project has been extended for a further two years, spanning the fiscal years 2024–2025 and 2025–2026. For this expansion, the government has allocated Rs. 495 crore. Training 300,000 individuals in various textile-related skills is the aim.
Samarth scheme guidelines, objectives and implementation
Objective:
- Generate jobs through organized sector of textile industry.
- Skills further support development along the garment value chain – excluding spinning and weaving.
Focus on Training:
- Provides training for beginners to the textile industry.
- Offers upskilling & reskilling opportunities to current workers, particularly in the Apparel and Garmenting sectors.
- Targeted to the traditional textile workers engaged in handloom, handicrafts, silk and jute.
Who Implements the Scheme:
- Implemented by players in the Textile industry, governments, and sectoral bodies.
Achievements:
- Has trained 327,000 since the program began; of those, 260,000 (or more like almost 79.5 percent) have found work.
- Has a strong emphasis on women’s employment, 289k (approximately 88.3%) of trained candidates are women
About the Scheme:
- Initiated in 2018 by Ministry of Textiles, for skill development, entrepreneurship, sustainable livelihoods and empowerment of women artisans.
