Karnataka Board Claim on Bidar Fort Sites

Within the old Bidar Fort, the Karnataka Board of Waqfs designated 17 monuments as its property. Local officials and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is in charge of maintaining the fort, are both confused and concerned by this news.

Bidar Fort: Historic Site and the Waqf Board’s Standards

  • Another act of importance is that Bidar Fort is one of the historical buildings in Karnataka with numerous historical structure tombs and mosques within the complex.
  • The Karnataka Board of Waqfs is another institutional category that regards itself as the owner of seventeen monuments, including the 16-Khamba mosque and tombs of Bahmani Sultans.
  • The ASI was not aware of the claim made by the Waqf Board about the ownership and management of these sites.
  • The officials of the Waqf Board complained that there was misleading information and no notices served to ASI.
  • For removal of encroachers, the Waqf Board has thought of withdrawing all the notices sent to those people who have been occupying land for a long time.
  • There are testimonies from farmers within the affected areas who say they have been served notices and changes to their records.
