Telangana Lower Manair Dam Observes Rare Indian Skimmer

Incidentally, a major event happened at Telangana’s Lower Manair Dam (LMD). From 150 to 200 were seen being a rare bird of India an Indian Skimmer. This type of birds have not been seen before in the region of Telangana. In winter they often migrate to the Kakinada port of Andhra Pradesh province. Bird watchers have reported observing these skimmers on 2023.

• Local Fisherman and Farmers will be made aware of importance of conservation of these birds habitats under the guidelines from the Karimnagar District Forest Officer (DFO)
• It supports diversity of species including the Indian Skimmer in the LMD reservoir.

• Indian Skimmer numbers are in steep decline so needs conservation interventions.
