Designed primarily to cater the needs of women residing in rural and remote areas, IIT Indore has launched a new tool that may aid in early detection of breast cancer. Three methods available bring the cost and accessibility of cancer screening down in a big way–the last method developed by Prof Srivathsan Vasudevan.
IIT Indore Cancer Detection Device
- Exploits Photoacoustic Spectral Response (PASR) mechanisms to scan for aberrant tissue alterations.
- It is one-tenth the cost of traditional methods such as MRI and CT scans, making it accessible to underserved areas.
- Solves healthcare accessibility barriers by providing a low-cost, trustable solution for the early detection of cancers.
- Places a laser over breast tissue, which shines light to identify normal, benign or malignant tissue
- Enhances ability to identify cancer earlier in rural India, improving the health of women who miss screenings for these time-sensitive cancers
- IIT Indore [2009] has innovative research opportunities and global collaborations.
