Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme 2026: West Bengal’s Monthly Aid for Unemployed Youth
The West Bengal government has announced the Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme 2026 , a new welfare initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to unemployed youth in the state. The scheme was unveiled by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the presentation of the interim Budget. Under the programme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a monthly allowance of ₹1,500. The scheme will officially come into effect on 1 April 2026 , ahead of its originally proposed August rollout.
Purpose and Rationale
The Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme has been conceptualised as a short-term support mechanism for educated but unemployed individuals. Its primary objective is to offer temporary financial relief during the transition phase between completion of education and securing employment. The state government has emphasised that the allowance is not intended as a substitute for employment, but as interim assistance to ease economic pressures faced by job seekers.
Application Process and Timeline
Applications for the scheme will be accepted between 15 February and 26 February 2026 . Registration facilities will be made available through both online portals and designated local application camps across districts. Disbursement of the allowance will begin from the launch date, ensuring minimal delay between approval and benefit transfer.
Eligibility Conditions
Applicants must be permanent residents of West Bengal and fall within the age group of 21 to 40 years . A minimum qualification of passing the Class 10 (Secondary) examination is mandatory. Only candidates who are unemployed at the time of application will be considered eligible.
Individuals already receiving monetary benefits under other state income-support schemes are excluded. However, students availing scholarships such as Aikyasree, Medhasree, Sikhasree and the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Scholarship are allowed to apply.
