AI Impact Startup Book Maps India’s Expanding Deep-Tech Ecosystem

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced the AI Impact Startup Book at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, offering a structured overview of India’s rapidly evolving artificial intelligence and deep-tech startup landscape. The publication serves as a national compendium documenting the scale, sectoral diversity and international expansion of Indian AI ventures. It reflects India’s transition from early experimentation to solution-driven, globally competitive innovation.

Mapping India’s AI Growth Trajectory

The compendium highlights strong startup participation in healthcare AI, alongside notable advances in foundation models, databases and indigenous AI infrastructure. Emerging domains include waste-tech solutions, multilingual voice and vision systems, and edge AI integrated with hardware platforms. The report indicates that nearly 47 per cent of early-stage startups retain a strong domestic presence, while 68 per cent of growth-stage firms operate internationally, demonstrating expanding global engagement. It also emphasises the geographical spread of innovation beyond major metropolitan centres, signalling the decentralisation of India’s technology ecosystem.

From Infrastructure to Citizen Impact

Abhishek Singh, Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and CEO of India AI, underscored that AI progress should be evaluated through measurable societal outcomes rather than infrastructure metrics alone. Priority sectors identified include healthcare, agriculture, education and employment. The compendium functions as a repository of deployable AI solutions, enabling ministries and state governments to assess technological maturity and field-level performance. Language-enabled agricultural advisory systems were cited as examples of AI’s potential to address last-mile service delivery challenges.

Scaling Applied AI Solutions

The next phase of India’s AI strategy centres on accelerating real-world adoption. The Startup Book catalogues 100 AI solutions and sets a target to scale at least 10 high-impact use cases within 12 to 18 months. This approach aligns with India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for applied AI innovation.
