Zubeen Garg, popular singer and cultural icon, died at 52 years old, as a result of a tragic scuba diving accident that happened in Singapore. He was pulled out of the sea by the police and administered CPR after which he was rushed to the Singapore General Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the ICU at around 2:30 pm IST.
Rise to Fame
Zubeen Garg is now a nationally celebrated personality with soulful Bollywood hits like Ya Ali in Gangster and Dil Tu Hi Bata in Krrish 3. In addition to his career in Hindi films, he was an active singer in Assamese and other regional Bhutanese languages, and he was a household name in Assam and other parts of the state.
Shock and Tributes
His untimely death has rocked the Assamese community, and his huge following in the rest of India. The adherents, the fellow professionals, and the chiefs received tributes:
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed it as a massive loss to the state and the country.
- Actor Adil Hussain felt grieved to recall the incredible role played by Zubeen in Assamese music and culture.

Zubeen Garg is recognized as one of the greatest cultural heroes of Assam; her heritage of memorable songs and an impressable mark on Indian music has become inalienable. His works would remain inspirational to coming generations of artists.
