NPC’s 68th Foundation Day Focuses on Productivity-Led Growth
The National Productivity Council (NPC) will commemorate its 68th Foundation Day on 12 February 2026 and observe National Productivity Week from 12 to 18 February nationwide. The 2026 theme, “Clusters as Growth Engine: Maximizing Productivity in MSMEs,” underscores the strategic role of cluster-based industrial development.
Theme: Productivity Through Clusters
Cluster-driven development has emerged as a key policy instrument for improving efficiency, competitiveness, and scale within the MSME sector . Industrial clusters facilitate shared infrastructure, specialised supply chains, and faster technology diffusion. By concentrating enterprises geographically, clusters generate economies of scale, reduce transaction costs, and enhance innovation capacity.
This productivity-focused framework is particularly relevant in the context of India’s expanding trade partnerships and global value chain integration, where MSME competitiveness is critical.
Nationwide Awareness and Capacity Building
NPC’s outreach activities will include seminars, workshops, and training sessions coordinated through its 12 Regional Directorates and Local Productivity Councils. Collaboration with ministries, state governments, academic institutions, and industry bodies will support dissemination of best practices in industrial efficiency, sustainability, and operational optimisation.
NPC’s Institutional Role
Established in 1958 , NPC operates as an autonomous organisation under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It provides consultancy, training, and research support in industrial engineering, quality systems, environmental management, human resource optimisation, and technology adoption.
Global Productivity Linkages
NPC represents India within the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), enabling international cooperation in productivity enhancement strategies.
