India and Greece Expand Defence Industrial Partnership

India and Greece have formalised closer strategic cooperation by signing a joint declaration of intent focused on building stronger links between their defence industries. The agreement underscores increasing alignment on security priorities, maritime stability, and co-development of military capabilities.

Framework Agreement and Long-Term Cooperation Plan

The declaration followed bilateral discussions between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Greece’s Minister of National Defence Nikolaos Georgios Dendias at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. The document establishes the basis for a structured five-year roadmap that will guide collaboration in manufacturing, technology transfer, and joint research initiatives. Both sides indicated that the partnership will prioritise sustained industrial engagement rather than project-specific cooperation.

Aligning National Defence Modernisation Agendas

The two governments agreed to link India’s domestic defence manufacturing push under Aatmanirbhar Bharat with Greece’s armed forces modernisation strategy known as Agenda 2030 . This alignment is expected to encourage joint ventures, component manufacturing partnerships, and shared innovation in emerging defence technologies. Industry stakeholders from both countries are likely to explore supply-chain integration and co-production opportunities.

Military Cooperation and Maritime Security Emphasis

Alongside the declaration, the countries exchanged a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026 outlining training exchanges, operational interactions, and future joint activities. Officials highlighted convergence on maritime security interests, noting that both nations rely on secure sea lanes for trade and energy flows. Enhanced coordination is expected in areas such as naval engagement, maritime domain awareness, and information sharing.

Strengthening Institutional Linkages

Greece has agreed to place a liaison officer at the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region, reinforcing collaboration on maritime surveillance and data exchange. During the visit, the Greek delegation also toured defence production facilities in Bengaluru and engaged with public sector enterprises and private technology firms, signalling intent to deepen industry-to-industry cooperation.
