Adampur Airport Renamed in Honour of Guru Ravidas Ji
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that Adampur Airport in Punjab will be renamed after Guru Ravidas , paying tribute to the saint’s timeless message of equality, dignity and selfless service. The announcement was made at a public event in Jalandhar marking Guru Ravidas’ birth anniversary.
Tribute to a Champion of Equality
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings continue to inspire Indian society with their emphasis on equality and equal opportunity for all. He noted that the Bhakti saint consistently challenged social discrimination and promoted human dignity, values that remain relevant in modern India. With the renaming, the airport will now be officially known as Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj Ji Airport .
Symbolic Recognition at Birth Anniversary Event
PM Modi described the renaming as a symbolic gesture to honour Guru Ravidas’ contribution to social harmony and inclusive thought. He said the saint’s emphasis on selfless service and compassion has guided generations and continues to provide moral strength to the nation. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that a key public infrastructure facility would now carry the name of a revered social reformer.
Aviation Infrastructure Boost in Punjab
During the same visit, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the new terminal building at Halwara Airport in the Ludhiana region. The upgraded facility is expected to improve regional air connectivity and support economic activity in central Punjab, benefiting industry, agriculture and trade. Modi highlighted that strengthening aviation infrastructure is crucial for balanced regional development.
