Title 2: Quad Meet in Delhi: Australia, Japan, US Foreign Ministers Arrive for Talks

Short Overview

India will host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on 26 May 2026. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has invited his counterparts from Australia, Japan, and the United States. The four ministers will discuss regional and global issues. They will also review ongoing Quad projects. This is the first Quad foreign ministers’ gathering on Indian soil since 2023. The previous meeting was held in Washington, D.C., on 1 July 2025.

Overview

The UMMID (Unique Methods of Management of Inherited Disorders) Programme is India’s major national initiative to improve the diagnosis, prevention, and management of inherited genetic disorders. Launched by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in 2019, the programme focuses on affordable healthcare, early detection, genetic counselling, and public awareness. It has established nearly 30 NIDAN Kendras across the country to provide advanced genetic testing and counselling services, especially in underserved regions.

Kantha stitch artist Tripti Mukherjee will receive the Padma Shri on May 25, 2026. She is being honoured for preserving West Bengal’s traditional embroidery. She has also empowered rural women by teaching them this art. For nearly four decades, she has worked to keep Kantha alive and take it to the world. The Prime Minister of India recently gifted two beautiful silk stoles to the Italian Prime Minister. One was made of Muga silk from Assam. The other was a Shirui Lily silk stole inspired by Manipur’s rare flower. Muga silk is known as the “golden silk” of Assam. It is a rare and precious textile. It comes from a special silkworm found only in the Brahmaputra Valley. This gift showed India’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has made a bold announcement. It is offering the complete transfer of technology for the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) to Indian industry. This news arrived on 21 May 2026.
