The silkworms eat only the leaves of Som and Soalu plants. These leaves have a nice smell. The silkworms are reared on trees, just like tasar silkworms.
Why Is Muga Silk So Special?
Muga silk has many wonderful qualities. First, its natural golden hue is very beautiful. No artificial dye is needed. Second, it is very durable. Muga silk products can last for many years. Third, its production is eco-friendly. It does not harm the environment. Muga silk is used to make traditional Assamese garments. The Shirui Lily silk stole draws its inspiration from a very rare flower. This flower is the Shirui Lily. It grows only on the misty heights of Shirui Kashong peak in Manipur. The flower is delicate and bell-shaped. It has pale pinkish-white petals. It blooms nowhere else in the world.
