Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes Oath as Assam CM for Second Term-PM Modi Attends Grand Ceremony

OVERVIEW

On 12 May 2026, Himanta Biswa Sarma became the Chief Minister of Assam for the second time in a row. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers from BJP and NDA states attended the event. Four other leaders also took oath as ministers. The NDA alliance won a big majority in the recent assembly elections. This is the third term for the NDA government in Assam since 2016.

10 Brave Women Officers Sail Around the World-IASV Triveni Returns to India Soon

OVERVIEW

Ten women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are sailing home. They are on a 50-foot yacht named IASV Triveni. The journey started from Mumbai on 11 September 2025. They have sailed more than 23,000 nautical miles. They stopped at Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Cape Town. Now they are sailing from Cape Town to Mumbai. The expedition will end in June 2026. This is India’s first all-women tri-service circumnavigation.

KAUST Scientists Create Electricity-Free Cooler That Drops Temperature to 3.6°C

OVERVIEW

Scientists in Saudi Arabia have made a cooling system that does not need electricity. It is called Nescod. The name stands for No Electricity and Sustainable Cooling on Demand. The system uses ammonium nitrate and water. When the salt dissolves in water, it absorbs heat and makes the surroundings cold. This is a big help for hot and dry places where electricity is not always available.

PM MITRA Park Inaugurated in Warangal-A Mega Hub for India’s Textile Industry

OVERVIEW

The Prime Minister of India recently opened a new PM MITRA Park in Warangal, Telangana. PM MITRA stands for Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel. This is a large textile hub. It brings all steps of textile production into one place. Spinning, weaving, dyeing, printing, and garment making – everything happens at the same location. Seven such parks are being built across India. The Ministry of Textiles runs this scheme.

India’s Oldest Nuclear Plant Gets New Life: Safety Upgrades Clear Way for Another Decade

OVERVIEW

India’s nuclear safety regulator gave good news on 7 May 2026. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) approved the restart of Unit-2 at Tarapur Atomic Power Station in Maharashtra. This unit can now run for another 10 years. The plant went through major safety upgrades and refurbishment. The first unit was cleared earlier in December 2025. Both units are India’s oldest boiling water reactors.
