Karnataka Launches KAAMS New AI-Powered App to Mark Attendance Twice a Day

The  Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance)  developed this application. Before the full launch, the app was tested (piloted) in several departments, including:

  • Health department

  • Education department

  • Legislative Assembly Secretariat

WHO IS COVERED UNDER THIS SYSTEM?

The system is intended for  more than 20 lakh government employees and contractual workers  in Karnataka. This includes:

  • Teaching staff (teachers)

  • Non-teaching staff (office staff, helpers, etc.)

  • Officers in government educational institutions and offices

WHY WAS KAAMS INTRODUCED?

The old biometric attendance system had some problems. Fingerprint scanners could be fooled. Also, many devices broke down. The new app uses face recognition and location tracking. This makes attendance more honest and accurate. Employees cannot mark attendance from home. They must be physically present at their workplace. This will improve punctuality and discipline in government offices and schools.
