Tiger Attack in Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary Claims Woman Life

  • Swamp Deer  – Also called barasingha. It lives in wet grasslands.

  • Hispid Hare  – This is a very rare rabbit. It lives in tall grass.

  • Bengal Florican  – This is a rare bird. It lives in grasslands.

  • White-backed Vulture  and  Long-billed Vulture  – These vultures are also endangered.

  • The Girwa River flows through the sanctuary. This river is declared a sanctuary for mugger crocodiles and gharials. It also has rare turtles and many types of fish.

Why the Girwa River Is Special

The Girwa River is very important for aquatic life. It is home to the Gangetic dolphin. This dolphin is blind. It uses sound to find its way and catch food. The river also has gharials. Gharials eat fish and do not attack humans. Mugger crocodiles are more dangerous. They can attack people who come near the water. The river is clean and full of fish. This makes it perfect for these animals.

The Danger of Living Near the Forest

The recent tiger attack is not the first such incident. Many villages lie near the forest boundary. People depend on the forest for firewood, grass, and other needs. But the forest is also home to wild animals. When humans enter the forest, conflicts happen. Sometimes tigers attack. Sometimes elephants damage crops. The forest department tries to help. They provide alternative sources of fuel. They also pay compensation to families of victims. But the risk never goes away. People must be very careful.

    Protecting the Sanctuary

Katarniaghat is a protected area. But it faces many threats. Poachers kill animals for their skin, bones, and teeth. People cut trees for wood. The river can get polluted. To protect the sanctuary, the government has forest guards. They patrol day and night. They use cameras to watch animals. They also work with local people. Awareness programmes teach villagers how to stay safe and how to help protect wildlife. Project Tiger has also helped a lot. Tiger numbers have increased in recent years.

    A Humble Request

Forests are beautiful. They give us clean air and water. They are home to amazing animals. But they are not playgrounds. When we go near a forest, we must be careful. We must not disturb the animals. We must not cut trees or throw garbage. The woman who died was just collecting firewood. She did not mean any harm. But the tiger was only doing what tigers do. It was protecting its home. We must learn to live with wildlife. And we must respect the danger.
