The Optimism in the Ipsos Survey 2026 in India: The Main Findings and the Issues

India is unique with regard to the world opinion.

India has become one of the brightest exceptions in the world at a time when the general mood is rather pessimistic. The Ipsos survey What Worries the World (March 2026) shows that most Indians are confident that the country is headed in the right direction. This is a stark difference to developed economies, in which fears of inflation, geopolitical unrest, and declining growth still threaten to sink the spirit of the people.

India in the world Survey.

The poll, conducted on 29 countries, indicates that in 25 countries, the majority of the citizens feel that their country is going the wrong direction. Comparatively, 65 percent of Indians believe that India is headed in the right direction, which is substantially higher than the average in the rest of the world that is 39 percent. India is among the three most optimistic countries and others include Singapore and Malaysia and some countries in the West are recording very low levels of optimism.

Mixed Reality Economic Confidence.

The macroeconomic prospects of India are good where only 74 percent of the respondents rated the current economic situation as good. The growth forecasts of approximately 7.4% in FY 202526 also support this belief. Nevertheless, not all people experience this optimistic attitude. A decrease in the index of personal financial conditions shows that numerous households are still under the cost-of-living strain despite the overall economic growth.

Significant Issues by the citizens.

Despite high optimism, there are still significant challenges. The number one worry is inflation, with 47% of the respondents indicating it, which is mainly attributed to the increase in food and energy costs. At 40 percent, unemployment comes next showing job creation concerns. Other concerns like education, crime, corruption, and inequality are also a major concern, which underscores prevailing structural and governance challenges.

In a Demanding Global Environment, Resilience.

The relatively optimistic perspective of India could be attributed to its sound economic policies, energy diversification, and even-handed politics. Trying to decrease reliance on fluctuating energy markets and putting money into renewables have served to mitigate external shocks. Nevertheless, the global uncertainties such as wars and disruption of supply chains still remain a threat, and a long-term policy focus is a necessity.
