SCR Becomes First Zone to Introduce Digital Parcel E-Marketplace
South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced a next-generation Rail Parcel Application, creating a digital e-marketplace for seamless door-to-door parcel booking and delivery through train services. The platform was unveiled by SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava during a Rail Parcel Logistics conclave, making SCR the first railway zone in India to roll out a fully integrated digital parcel solution.
Digitising Traditional Parcel Operations
Parcel services have long been a core segment of Indian Railways operations. The newly launched application eliminates the need for physical visits to parcel offices, manual paperwork and long queues. Customers can now complete bookings digitally through mobile access, enhancing speed, transparency and user convenience.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Railways’ broader objective of digital transformation and customer-centric service delivery.
End-to-End Logistics Integration
The Rail Parcel Application integrates first-mile pick-up, rail-based mid-mile transport and last-mile delivery into a single digital framework. Users can schedule consignments, track shipments in real time and manage delivery coordination via a unified interface.
This streamlined model benefits individuals, small enterprises and large businesses by reducing transaction time and improving logistical predictability.
Strengthening Freight and E-Commerce Linkages
The platform is expected to enhance SCR’s parcel revenue while positioning rail transport as a competitive logistics alternative in the expanding e-commerce ecosystem. By digitising processes, the system reduces paperwork, improves operational efficiency and fosters greater coordination between logistics partners.
