The Government of India has opened nominations for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2026, aimed at recognising exceptional contributions in science, technology and innovation. The initiative seeks to honour individuals and teams whose work advances research, innovation and socio-economic development.

Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is a national-level recognition designed to celebrate impactful scientific achievements. It acknowledges contributions across multiple domains, including research, innovation and applied technology. The award reflects India’s focus on strengthening its knowledge economy and promoting innovation-led growth.

Eligibility Criteria

The award is open to scientists, technologists and innovators from government institutions, private organisations and independent backgrounds. Individuals who have made notable contributions through discoveries or technological advancements are eligible. Persons of Indian Origin living abroad can also be nominated if their work benefits India or Indian communities.

The awards are presented in four categories:

• Vigyan Ratna: Lifetime achievement in science and technology

• Vigyan Shri: Distinguished contributions in scientific fields

• Vigyan Yuva–Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar: For young scientists below 45 years

• Vigyan Team: For collaborative research groups

The awards are administered by the RVP Secretariat under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, within the Ministry of Science and Technology.
