Prashant Pise Appointed India’s New Ambassador to Oman

OVERVIEW

India has appointed senior diplomat Prashant Pise as the new Ambassador to Oman. He is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 1995 batch. Currently, he serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He will replace Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas, who is a 1993 batch IFS officer. Pise has served in Cairo, Tripoli, and handled Russia, CIS, and Central Asia affairs. His new role is important because Oman is a key partner for India in the Gulf region.

PRASHANT PISE INDIA’S NEXT AMBASSADOR TO OMAN

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the appointment of  Prashant Pise  as India’s next Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. He is a  1995 batch Indian Foreign Service officer . He will replace  Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas , a senior diplomat from the 1993 IFS batch who has been serving as India’s envoy in Muscat.

WHO IS PRASHANT PISE?

Prashant Pise is a highly experienced diplomat. He has decades of experience in Indian foreign policy and international relations. His diplomatic journey includes significant overseas assignments and policy roles.

  • First foreign posting:  Cairo, Egypt (1997 to 2000) – gained early diplomatic experience in a key geopolitical region

  • Later posting:  Tripoli, Libya (until 2004) – expanded his engagement in the Middle East and North Africa

  • Back in New Delhi:  Worked as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (2004 to 2006)

In New Delhi, his responsibilities included:

  • Russia relations

  • Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)

  • Central Asia affairs

  • United Nations economic and social matters

CURRENT ROLE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Before this new appointment, Prashant Pise has been serving as  Additional Secretary (Emigration Policy and Welfare)  in the Ministry of External Affairs. This role is very important because it deals with:

  • Welfare of Indians living abroad

  • Migration frameworks

  • Worker protection issues

These matters are deeply linked to Gulf countries, where large Indian communities live and work.

In  February 2026 , he led the Indian delegation at the  8th Ministerial Consultations of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue  in Dubai. This shows his continued involvement in labour mobility and international migration diplomacy.
