Veteran Urdu poet Bashir Badr passed away on 28 May 2026. He was 91 years old. He died in Bhopal. He was battling dementia for some time. Dementia is a disease that affects memory and thinking. His son Taiyab Badr confirmed the news. The poet breathed his last around 12:30 PM. His final rites were held at Bada Bagh Qabristan in Bhopal after Maghrib prayers. With his death, Urdu poetry has lost a shining star.

Who Was Bashir Badr?

Bashir Badr was a legendary Urdu poet. He was born on 15 February 1935 in Ayodhya. He studied at Aligarh Muslim University. He completed his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from there. Later, he became a teacher. He taught Urdu literature for many years. He served as Lecturer and Head of the Urdu Department at Meerut College for nearly 17 years. After that, he devoted himself fully to poetry. He started writing poetry when he was only seven years old. That is very young. His love for words stayed with him his whole life.

Bashir Badr’s poetry was different from classical Urdu poetry. Classical poetry can be very hard to understand. It uses difficult words and complex ideas. But Bashir Badr wrote in simple language. His poems felt real and personal. He wrote about:
