Defence & Security

  • Divyastra Mission:  India successfully tested Agni missile with MIRV capability from APJ Abdul Kalam Island (formerly Wheeler Island, Odisha). Strike range: 700 km (Agni-1) to 5,000 km+.

  • ICGS Aanchal:  5th vessel of the  Adamya class  fast patrol vessels, built by Goa Shipyard Limited, stationed in Gujarat (Coast Guard Region Northwest).

  • Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sunanya:  Arrived at Yagaon Harbour, Myanmar, under the  SAGAR  initiative (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

  • Indian Army Officer Major Abhilasha Barak:  India's first woman combat helicopter pilot. Appointed as commander of the Female Engagement Team in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Received UN Military Gender Advocate Award (3rd Indian peacekeeper after Suman Gawani in 2019 and Radhika Sen in 2023).

  • Tara (Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation):  India's first indigenous glide weapon system, flight-tested by DRDO and IAF from Odisha.

  • Pragati Multilateral Exercise:  First edition hosted by Indian Army at Umroi, Meghalaya. Full form: Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in Indian Ocean Region.

International Relations & Summits

  • International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit 2026:  Hosted by India (June 1-2). Theme: "Save Big Cats, Save Humanity, Save Ecosystem". 7 big cats: Lion, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, Puma.  Saudi Arabia  joined in May 2026 (total members: 26).

  • India-EU EV Battery Recycling Initiative:  ₹19 crore joint initiative for EV battery recycling. Introduced 21-character BPPN (Battery Pack Aadhaar Number).

  • India-Vietnam Trade Target:  $25 billion by 2030.

  • India-South Korea Trade Target:  $50 billion by 2030.

  • BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting:  Hosted by India (May 14-15). Theme:  BRICS@20  – "Building Resilience for Cooperation, Sustainability, and Innovation".

  • Kimberley Process International Meeting 2026:  Hosted in Mumbai (May 11-14). India holds chairship from Jan 1, 2026. Focus: 3 C’s – Credibility, Compliance, Consumer Confidence.

  • Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSP):  Launched with IFAD (headquarters: Rome, Italy) for 2026-2033 (8 years) for food security.

  • ISSF World Cup (Women’s 25m pistol):  Ayesha Singh broke world record.

  • WIM Title (Chess):  Swara Lakshmi Nair (Karnataka) became 2nd player from state.

Economy, Schemes & Portals

  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Suraksha Schemes (launched 2015 from Kolkata):

    • Atal Pension Yojana (18-40 yrs; pension ₹1000-5000/month after 60).

    • Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (18-50 yrs; ₹436 premium/yr; ₹2 lakh cover; implemented by LIC; valid June 1 to May 31).

    • Suraksha Bima Yojana (18-70 yrs; ₹20 premium/yr; ₹2 lakh for accidental death/total disability; ₹1 lakh for partial disability).

    • Total claims settled: ₹25,160 crore (11 years).

  • PM Mitra Parks:  7 parks. First functional: Warangal (Telangana). Total outlay: ₹4,445 crore.
