AIC’s Krishi Sakhi Programme Promotes Inclusive Agricultural Growth
In line with the United Nations declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer through the Food and Agriculture Organization, the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited has launched the Krishi Sakhi Initiative . The programme aims to empower women farmers and promote inclusive growth in India’s agricultural sector.
Objective and Vision of the Initiative
The Krishi Sakhi Initiative seeks to recognise the crucial role of women in agriculture while enhancing their access to crop insurance and financial protection. It focuses on building awareness, strengthening resilience, and encouraging women farmers to actively participate in formal agricultural and insurance systems.
Month-wise Activities and Outreach
The initiative follows a structured year-long plan. In January 2026, AIC released a digital awareness video. In February, a walkathon was organised under the theme #AICforHer , demonstrating institutional support for women farmers. In March, outreach expanded to grassroots levels through workshops and awareness programmes focusing on the benefits of crop insurance.
Focus on Awareness and Inclusion
A key component of the initiative is spreading awareness about crop insurance, sanitation, and hygiene in rural areas. It also includes dissemination of information through articles, interviews, and community engagement activities. These efforts aim to improve knowledge, participation, and financial inclusion among women farmers.
Significance for Rural Development
The initiative is expected to enhance rural livelihoods by equipping women farmers with knowledge and financial security tools. Improved access to insurance and awareness will strengthen agricultural resilience and contribute to sustainable and gender-inclusive rural development.
