Jaishankar at G7 Meet: India Pushes for UN Reforms and Global South Focus

G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting 2026: India Highlights Supply Chains and Energy Concerns

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar took part in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France, where discussions centred on global governance, geopolitical tensions and economic stability amid ongoing crises.

Push for United Nations Reforms

India reiterated the need for comprehensive reforms in the United Nations system. Jaishankar stressed that global institutions must adapt to present-day realities and become more representative and effective. He underlined that current decision-making frameworks still reflect outdated post-World War II power structures.

Focus on Global South Priorities

A major theme of India’s intervention was the concern of the Global South. Jaishankar highlighted that developing countries face disproportionate challenges due to rising energy costs and supply disruptions. He emphasised the need for equitable access to affordable energy and inclusive global economic policies.

Resilient Supply Chains Amid Uncertainty

The minister also stressed the importance of strengthening supply chain resilience. Recent global events, including conflicts and pandemics, have exposed systemic vulnerabilities. Diversified and secure supply networks are essential for maintaining economic stability and ensuring uninterrupted global trade.

Bilateral Engagements and West Asia Concerns

On the sidelines, Jaishankar held talks with Anita Anand to review bilateral relations and explore cooperation in trade, agriculture and critical minerals. Both leaders also discussed the evolving situation in West Asia and its wider global implications.
