India Secures Energy Supply as Jag Laadki Reaches Gujarat Safely
An Indian-flagged crude oil tanker, Jag Laadki , has successfully docked at Mundra Port in Gujarat, reinforcing India’s energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The vessel carried over 80,000 metric tonnes of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the robustness of India’s maritime supply chain.
Key Details of the Tanker and Cargo
Jag Laadki is a large crude carrier with a length of 274.19 metres and a beam of 50.04 metres. It has a deadweight tonnage of approximately 164,716 tonnes and a gross tonnage of around 84,735 tonnes. The cargo was loaded at Fujairah Port, one of the world’s key oil storage and export centres, before being transported safely to India.
Safe Passage Through Critical Sea Routes
The development follows the successful transit of two Indian LPG carriers—MT Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi—through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. These vessels delivered a combined 92,712 metric tonnes of LPG, underscoring the importance of secure sea lanes for India’s energy imports.
Operation Sankalp and Maritime Security
India has maintained a strong naval presence under Operation Sankalp to ensure safe passage of commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf region. The mission plays a critical role in safeguarding shipping routes and protecting Indian interests amid regional instability.
Government Measures to Ensure Continuity
The Directorate General of Shipping is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with shipping companies and Indian missions abroad. The government is also working with ports and logistics stakeholders to minimise disruptions, including offering operational support and concessions where required to ensure uninterrupted energy flow.
