Gujarat Digitises 20 Public Services Under Sugam Digital Gujarat Initiative

Digital Governance Boost: Gujarat Launches End-to-End Online Public Services

Gujarat has digitised 20 high-demand public services as part of administrative reforms based on recommendations of the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Committee (GARC). The move aims to strengthen efficiency, transparency and accessibility in governance.

Sugam Digital Gujarat Initiative

The services have been rolled out under the Sugam Digital Gujarat Initiative led by the Department of Science and Technology. The initiative focuses on delivering faceless, paperless and cashless services, aligning with the broader Digital India vision and improving citizen-government interaction.

Scope of Digitised Services

In the initial phase, services from five key departments—Social Justice and Empowerment, Revenue, Legal, Food and Civil Supplies, and Tribal Development—have been brought online. These include certificates such as caste, income, non-creamy layer and EWS, along with ration card services like addition, deletion and correction of details. Legal affidavits and revenue-related documents are also included.

Technology Integration and Features

The Digital Gujarat platform integrates Aadhaar-based authentication, API-driven verification, DigiLocker linkage, eSign functionality and Unified Payments Interface for payments. Certificates are issued with QR codes for verification, and certain services are accessible via WhatsApp. The platform also allows reuse of previously submitted data, reducing redundancy.

Impact and Future Expansion

The platform processes nearly 1.20 crore applications annually, with about 87 lakh linked to these services. Digitisation is expected to reduce processing time, enable real-time tracking and improve accuracy. Future plans include expansion of services and development of AI tools in regional languages for enhanced accessibility.
