Ministry of Ayush Invites Nominations to Honour Excellence in Yoga
The Ministry of Ayush has announced the opening of applications for the Prime Minister’s Awards for Yoga 2026. The awards are designed to acknowledge exceptional contribution, innovation and sustained leadership in advancing Yoga at national and international levels. The initiative reinforces India’s commitment to promoting Yoga as an instrument of preventive healthcare and global cultural engagement.
Categories and Award Benefits
The honours will be presented in two distinct categories — Individuals and Institutions. Each selected awardee will receive a trophy, a formal citation and a cash prize of ₹25 lakh. The recognition is intended for those who have demonstrated long-term impact in Yoga education, research, therapeutic practice, capacity building and community outreach.
By recognising excellence across domains, the awards aim to set benchmarks for quality and credibility in Yoga practice and scholarship.
Promoting Global and Scientific Engagement
The awards encourage innovation in Yoga-based interventions, academic research and evidence-based wellness programmes. They also support efforts to expand Yoga’s footprint across international platforms.
Global acceptance of Yoga accelerated after the United Nations adopted 21 June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, strengthening India’s soft-power outreach and wellness diplomacy.
Application Process
Eligible candidates may submit nominations through the National Awards Portal. The last date for submission is the 21st of the upcoming month. Applications will undergo a structured evaluation process based on merit, impact and contribution.
