AICTE Launches VAANI Scheme 3.0 to Promote Indian Languages in Technical Education

Overview

To boost the use of Indian languages in technical education, the All India Council of Technical Education has initiated the third edition of its flagship AICTE-VAANI scheme. The program will help to improve the inclusiveness of higher education by helping students to gain knowledge of technical subjects in their indigenous languages through formal academic support.

Meghalaya Grants Official Status to Khasi and Garo Languages

Overview

On April 16, the Meghalaya Cabinet passed the Meghalaya Official Languages Ordinance, 2026, which gave Khasi and Garo the full official status alongside English. This is a significant change upon the previous system where English was the only official language and Khasi and Garo were only associates.

Asian Development Bank Increases India prognosis to 6.9 Percent FY27.

Overview

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has revised the forecast of Indian GDP growth to 6.9% in FY27 and attributed this to high domestic demand and rising investment activity. The further growth is expected to increase to 7.3% in FY28, which strengthens the status of India as one of the fastest-growing major economies.
