The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revised the base year of India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 2011–12 to 2022–23, with the updated series released on 27 February 2026. The revision reflects changes in the structure of the economy, incorporation of new data sources and adoption of updated statistical standards. It aims to improve the accuracy and relevance of national income estimates for policymaking.

Kusunpur village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district is set to become the state’s first “smart village” under a technology-led rural development initiative by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Located in the Rajnagar block, the village has around 130 families and a population of nearly 700. The project aims to create a self-reliant and sustainable rural ecosystem by integrating scientific innovations into everyday life.

India Strengthens Biodiversity Governance with ABS National Report 2026

India has submitted its First National Report (NR1) on the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol to the Convention on Biological Diversity Secretariat on 27 February 2026. The report was prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority. It reviews progress made between November 2017 and December 2025 and outlines India’s efforts in strengthening biodiversity governance and benefit-sharing mechanisms.
