The first UNESCO Chair on Gender Inclusion and Skills is launched at SSPU Pune.

A Breakthrough in Inclusion Education.

Pune based Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU) has initiated the first UNESCO Chair in Asia, on Gender Inclusion and Skill Development. It was announced at the international conference Women Leading the Future of Work, held in cooperation with UNESCO.

This project will help overcome the inequalities between genders by integrating education, skills training, and employment opportunities, especially among the disadvantaged girls and women.

The first of its kind in Asia.

Jayant Chaudhary was the official inaugurator of the Chair. It is the inaugural UNESCO Chair in Asia that specifically focuses on gender inclusion via skill development and India is at the centre of an emerging global emphasis on inclusive workforce development.

The programme is a powerful cooperation between the academia, government, and international institutions.

Concentrate on Future Skills and Employability.

The tangible results that have been already achieved by SSPU as part of this initiative include the training of 10,000 girls in high growth areas including:

  • Robotics and automation
  • Semiconductor technology
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Defence technology

These sunrise sectors have good job prospects. It is worth noting that all the trained participants have reportedly been offered jobs, which is the strength of the industry-linked training model of the SSPU.

Leadership and Implementation Model.

Swati Mujumdar is the UNESCO Chair who has established a skilling framework that is industry-integrated.

The main characteristics of this model are:

  • Practical, hands-on learning
  • Direct industry collaboration
  • Target employability performance.

The program will help to close the gender gap in technical education and bring more women into the fields where they have been underrepresented.

Why This Project is Important.

This programme is not just an education programme but it establishes a pipeline between training and employment. It fits the national agenda such as the Skill India Mission and contributes to the overall vision of the women-led development.

The initiative enhances India as a place of inclusive skills development and innovation by incorporating global standards with local implementation.

The Rising contribution of India to the World in skill.

The opening of this UNESCO Chair strengthens the determination of India to develop a non-discriminatory and skilled workforce. It also emphasizes the significance of institutional, industry, and policy partnerships to deal with gender gaps.

As the need of skilled professionals in developed sectors grows, these programs will likely have a significant role in the future of work as well as providing women with equal opportunities.
