The Court also ordered that every ambulance must have a GPS or vehicle tracking system . This will allow the emergency number 112 to see where the nearest ambulance is. The ambulance must also be integrated with the 112 helpline. So when you call 112, the system can send the closest ambulance to you immediately.
Protection for Good Samaritans
A Good Samaritan is a person who helps an accident victim. Many people in India do not stop to help because they fear police questioning or legal trouble. The Supreme Court has already given protection to Good Samaritans in the past. But now the Court has ordered states to create proper systems.
Within three months, every state and Union Territory must set up physical and digital grievance redressal systems for Good Samaritans. If a helper faces any harassment or problem, they can complain and get quick justice. This will encourage more people to help accident victims without fear.
PM RAHAT Scheme: Cashless Treatment for Accident Victims
The government has a scheme called Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025 . It is also known as PM RAHAT . Under this scheme, road accident victims get free treatment up to a certain limit. The Supreme Court has now made this scheme very important.
States and Union Territories that have not yet adopted PM RAHAT must make it operational within three months. The Court said that failing to do so will be treated as a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This is a strong message to all state governments.
Court Will Keep Watching
The Supreme Court did not stop with orders. It also said that it will keep continuing oversight . This means the Court will keep checking whether states are following the orders. The chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories must submit action-taken reports within fixed timelines. The case will come back before the Court after four months. If any state fails to comply, the Court may take strict action.
