1. Pilots Union Complains about Safety:
- Two recent incidences were cited in the letter written by the Indian Pilots Guild to the Civil Aviation Minister:
- Flight AI-154 (Vienna to Delhi): Diverted to Dubai because of the reported multiple system problems with autopilot and flight controls.
- Flight AI-117: During landing in the state of Birmingham, it deployed the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) power system, which was a backup.
- These problems raised by the union point to inadequate serviceability of the aircrafts, which may arise due to the substitution of the previous engineers in AIESEL with new employees.
- They attributed such malfunctions to the safety issues in general, putting the tragic accident of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad into perspective.
